Skincare & Sun care

Have any fun in the sun this past weekend?

With the days getting warmer and summer just around the corner we're having visions of long days in the sun, relaxing by the pool, and everything salty and sun-kissed! Sounds like heaven, right? However...sometimes those dreams can be accompanied by a little HEAT...and that vision of sun-kissed glory reveals it's true colors...and they're 50 shades of RED! That's right, the flush that just won't go away. SUN BURN.

I'm pretty sure we all know the deal with sunburns. As a VERY pale and very active child myself I've definitely had my fair share. But we know a little more today about the downsides of those sunburns than we use to, and are much wiser for it. Despite that it's easy to forget sometimes. It may not SEEM so sunny outside, or maybe we simply forgot we'd be out so long. One thing leads to another and we find ourselves a little rosier than we'd like to be!

Aside from being painful, sunburns can lead to a host of other complications from premature aging to skin cancer. This is why the product first and foremost in your skincare routine should be...what? That's right, say it with me mama, SUNSCREEN. It's your skins first line of defense and honestly lays the foundation for everything else! It doesn't matter how many skincare products you slather on, if you aren't protecting your skin from the sun you AREN'T protecting your skin.

During pregnancy we know how difficult it can be to figure out what products you should or shouldn't be using! The same, unfortunately, goes for sunscreens. However the good news here is that it's a little easier to decipher in this case than with some of your other skincare products. And there are even more benefits than you might think to slathering it on! Aside from protecting your skin from the sun, the most important factor in all of this of course, sunscreen may even offer the added benefit of helping to reduce dark spots that some women experience during their pregnancy called melasma.

So, what should you look for? There are actually 2 ingredients in particular that the FDA has deemed safe for use by all people: titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These two ingredients are heavy hitters in the mineral sunscreen game which can be the best for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or anyone with overly sensitive skin. You should also be making sure whatever sunscreen you settle on is always broad spectrum, it protects you from UVA and UVB rays. In terms of SPF? 30 or higher is the safest bet, and water resistant if you plan on doing any pool time!

Aside from sunscreen alone there are other ways to make sure your fun in the sun goes uninterrupted! The first of which is to be cautious about sun exposure between 10 am and 4pm, the hottest time of day. When you do have to go outside cover up! Wide brimmed hats, clothing that offers a bit more coverage, there's even UPF rated clothing that offers fabric that can block sunlight. Don't forget the sunglasses! It may be the last thing you'd think of but your poor eyes can get sun-burnt as well!

Now if that sunburn just happens to sneak through, don't panic mama! It happens! That's where we've got your back! In fact our mama community has been loving cooling down lately with our Mega Moisturizing Belly Mask! Our duo is perfect for after sun-care to help cool down red, inflamed skin, and nurture it at the same time with intense moisture to improve healing! A win-win on all fronts. Don't take our word for it though, look at what some of our mama's have had to say thus far!

The moral here is simple. Enjoy your sunny days! Get outside! Just remember to give your skin a little love first, give it a fighting chance against the sun, and then give it a little love again after. ♥️
